Amlan bags NE school chess title

GUWAHATI, July 13 � Amlan Mahanta clinched the title of the 4th Rakthab Dutta Choudhury Memorial North East School Chess Championship which concluded here today. In the final round, Amlan played a draw with Uddipta Kakati to score a total of 7 points out of 8 rounds. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Dipankar Roy, General Manager, IOC as the guest of honour while actress Nishita Goswami was the chief guest.

In the Pawn group, Shahil Dey and Anurag Kalita scored 7 points each and Shahil Dey was declared first while Anurag Kalita was placed second on basis of tie-break points.

Rishita Sinha was declared the best girl player with 5 points and Anoushka Priyom got the second spot.

In the Knight group, Uddipta Kakati and Gilleon Khonglah Ropmay scored 6 points each and Uddipta Kakati was declared first while Gilleon Khonglah Ropmay was placed second on basis of tie-break points. Bidisha Sarma was declared the best girl player with 5.5 points and Ritzy Bora bagged the second spot with 4.5 points.

In the Queen group, Neelabhjyoti Borthakur, Deep Das and Nitish Das scored 6 points each with Neelabhjyoti Borthakur bagging the first spot while Deep Das and Nitish Das were placed second and third respectively on basis of tie-break points.

Debanjana Purkayastha was declared the best girl player with 4.5 points and Sanjeeta Kakati was the second best girl player with 4.5 points.
