Amit Shah to chair 68th NEC session

GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - The 68th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) is being held in Guwahati on September 8 and 9 under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The meeting will be attended by the MoS (Independent Charge), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh, members of the NEC consisting of the Governors and Chief Ministers of the 8 northeastern States and other members. Senior officials from the States and key ministries of the Government of India are also expected to be present.

During the two-day session there will be presentations from the Ministry of DoNER, NEC, the State governments as well as a few selected Central ministries on various developmental issues which are critical to the region.

The plenary is expected to deliberate on progress of ongoing projects, outlays by Central ministries in the northeastern region and plans for the period beyond March 2020 when the 14th Finance Commission term comes to an end.
