AGARTALA, June 14 - BJP national president Amit Shah, who was scheduled to arrive in Tripura on June 18 , has postponed his visit due to the unprecedented flood under which the State is reeling.
Shah was supposed to visit the State to unfold the 100-day report card of the BJP-IPFT Government in the State on June 18, but he has suspended the programme due to the flood, said State BJP general secretary Pratima Bhowmik here today.
The BJP chief will surely visit the State once it recovers from the flood, she said, adding that Shah had asked party leaders and workers to stand by the flood-affected people in their hour of crisis.
Soon after assuming office, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had announced to unveil the Government�s performance card of 100 days as part of the party�s commitment to good governance and accountability.
Meanwhile, at least two persons died in flood-related incidents and more than 15,000 people have been directly affected by the unprecedented flood caused by torrential rains.
Altogether 25,805 people have taken shelter in 189 relief camps due to the flash flood caused by incessant rainfall on June 12 and 13, said an official of the State Emergency Operation Centre, adding that the final report is yet to be compiled.
Although the water level has started receding, the flood situation is still grim in the Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district. Five columns of the Assam Rifles have been pressed into service, along with NDRF personnel, to evacuate marooned people in the subdivision, said a senior State Government official.
