Ambubachi Mela rituals begin at Kamakhya temple

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 22 - With no footfall of pilgrim, priests of the Kamakhya Temple have started the rituals of Ambubachi Mela from today at Nilachal Hill. The temple management committee informed that the Ambubachi Mahayog will end on June 26.

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and to prevent infection in and around the temple, the police have blocked all the routes to the temple for outsiders, so that no one can visit the temple during the Mela days.

Significantly, the temple has remained closed for pilgrims since March 20 as a precautionary measure against novel coronavirus and its management committee stated that it will take further decision on opening of the temple for public after June 30.

This situation is a huge loss for the State as far as the Ambubachi Mela is concerned as it recorded footfall of around 20 lakh pilgrims last year.
