Ambubachi Mela: Departments asked to prepare action plan

GUWAHATI, June 5 - In view of the ensuing Ambubachi Mela, all the departments concerned have been directed to submit their standard operating procedures (SOPs) by June 10. The annual Ambubachi Mela will be celebrated this year from June 22 to 26.

�All the concerned departments have been requested to prepare their action plan and submit the plan before June 10 to Pulak Mahanta, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro. Besides, all the concerned departments are to submit their respective SOPs to Kshitish Chandra Pegu, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, within June 10 for proper compilation of an Ambubachi Master Plan,� said an official.

At least five sheds are to be constructed from the foothill up to the Kamakhya Temple for the benefit of the pilgrims.

�All the concerned departments have been requested to complete the camps before June 18. The camp at the Sonaram field will be declared as a cultural venue where the inaugural ceremony of the Mela will be held,� said the official.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Dr M Angamuthu has directed operationalization of a control room which is intended to coordinate between the different departments including the district administration, Health, Police, Tourism, Food Safety department and SDRF.

�The DC has directed all the concerned people not to distribute any food items on the roadside, except drinking water. He has also directed that the food items be served only at the designated camps for the purpose. Guwahati Municipal Corporation is to place adequate numbers of dustbins along with a team of sweepers at every 100-metre distance along the road starting from Bharalumukh to the Kamakhya temple,� said the official.
