Ambedkar death anniversary observed

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - A programme was organised to mark the 60th death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar at the BR Ambedkar Bhawan at Balipukhuri, North Salmara, in Bongaigaon district recently, stated a press release.

The event was presided over by the SDO (Civil), Saranga Pani Sharma and attended by lecturer of Abhayapuri College, Dhiren Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of North Salmara, Mitali Lahkar, SC Development Officer, Nagen Baishya, SDI and PRO Snigddha Rani Das, among others.

The event began with a cleanliness drive and plantation of saplings in a nearby school field. The meeting began with the lighting of lamps and paying of floral tributes at the portrait of Dr Ambedkar.

The schoolchildren sang the State anthem �O Mur Apunar Desh� to welcome the guests.

Dhiren Sharma spoke on the biography and struggle of Dr Ambedkar. Nagen Baishya gave a brief description of Dr Ambedkar and also said that the financial status of the SC development office is really bad.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from Mrinal Choudhury.
