Amal Prova Das Award to Dwarika Barua

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 - Governor Banwarilal Purohit presented the Amal Prova Das Sarvodaya Award-2016 to veteran Gandhian Dwarika Barua on the occasion of the 105th birth anniversary of late Amal Prova Das, which was observed at the Sarania Ashram today. The award carries Rs 25,000 in cash, a citation, an eri chadar, a sarai and a gamocha. This was stated in an official release.

Speaking on the occasion, Purohit said Mahatma Gandhi was a towering personality who exemplified a unique co-existence of politics and principle, pleasure and conscience, knowledge and character, worship and sacrifice.

Terming the burgeoning gap between these virtues a sin, he called upon people to emulate the life of Gandhiji and strike a balance between these virtues to lead a life of a complete man.

Citing corruption as an evil inflicting the society, Purohit also lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for cracking down on corruption and corrupt officials to wipe out corruption.

Hailing Barua, who is a devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhabe, Purohit said Barua is a living example who has created a niche in society by glorifying and championing the tenets of Gandhism. The Governor also wished him a long life.

Synchronising with the occasion, Purohit also conferred the Dr Harekrishna Das Award on Dr Rupjyoti Sharma, a topper in surgery and Dr Tilottoma Rai Choudhury Memorial Award on Dr Vijaya Agarwala, Dr Avinaba DN Singh and Abhiyan Syiemlleh, toppers in obstetrics and gynaecology in the MBBS examination conducted by the Shankardeva University of Health Science, the release added.
