All unmanned level crossings in group �B� routes removed: NFR

GUWAHATI, April 1 - The Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) today said it has achieved the target of elimination of all unmanned level crossings in group �B� routes on March 31, adhering to the target set by the Railway Board.

An official statement said railway routes are classified into various categories based on the future maximum permissible speed.

Group �A� routes have sanctioned speed of 160 km per hour and Group �B� routes have sanctioned speed of 130 km per hour.

�NFR has 230 km of Group �B� routes between Malda Town and New Jalpaiguri. There are 22 unmanned level crossings in this section, all of which have been eliminated � 21 of them by manning i.e. by posting gateman and one by diversion,� said the statement.

Altogether, the NFR eliminated 229 unmanned level crossings during the fiscal 2017-18, which ended yesterday. All unmanned level crossings in all routes of the zone are to be eliminated by March 2019.
