All-religion prayer meet for Dr Kalam

GUWAHATI, July 30 - An all-religion prayer meeting was organised by the ERD Foundation to pay tribute to former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and pray to the almighty for his eternal peace on the evening of July 29 in the campus of Veterinary College, Khanapara here.

Religious heads of Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Sikh communities performed their prayers in one single platform in front of a gathering of around 500 students and faculty members from the ERDF Group of Institutions. Dr NK Chaudhury, former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University; HN Das, former Chief Secretary, Assam; Dr Alaka Desai Sarma, Dean, Students Welfare of USTM and several other distinguished personalities attended the prayer programme.

All the dignitaries present in the prayer meeting were of the opinion that the nation must carry forward the vision and philosophy of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam by inculcating the spirit of brotherhood for overall development, integrity and harmony.

Earlier on July 28, the students, faculty members, staff and higher officials of the USTM gathered at the Amenity Centre of the university to pay their heartfelt homage to the great scientist and visionary of India. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr PG Rao, read out the condolence message in front of the gathering. He also announced that one of the academic blocks of the university will be named after Dr Kalam.

Tribune meet: Youth for Humanity, a city-based NGO organised a programme at Ganesh Udyan, Ganesh-guri here on July 28 to offer tribute to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
