KOKRAJHAR, Aug 29 � An all-party meeting was held today at Kokrajhar Circuit House with Dr Bhumidhar Barman in the chair. The meeting discussed over the restoration of peace and normalcy and adoption of confidence-building measures among all sections of the society in aftermath of violence in BTC.
The meeting took opinions and necessary of recommendations from all parties and democratic organizations on the current situation for bringing back a peaceful atmosphere.
BPPF president Rabiram Narzary said the government should ensure protection of tribal belts and blocks, forest land, khaas land, grazing field, etc., from the illegal occupation of suspected Bangladeshis and should avoid rushing the rehabilitation process without confidence-building measures. He said all democratic organizations should be taken into confidence and the BTC administration should also be part of rehabilitation process.
Lawrence Islary, president of Kokrajhar District Committee of ABSU said that a meeeting between ABSU and ABMSU will not bring peace and that all civil society groups should be involved. He also said that the AAMSU had been demanding scrapping of the BTC Accord which had hurt the sentiments of the Bodo people in particular.
Islary said the government should update the NRC taking 1971 as the base year. He also demanded that the Non-Bodo Suraksha Samity which is hatching a conspiracy for communal violence must be declared as a banned organization.
Adviser of ABMSU Mohibul Hoque said that they had no objection to identification of the suspected nationals but the illegal arms and ammunition should be seized. He said a family will not see peaceful environment if the guardian is not good. Accusing BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary as guardian of inequality, Hoque said they have not raised any voice for scrapping of the BTC Accord but they will raise amendment of BTC Accord in future when the time is appropriate.
