All India shooting meet in city

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 � Assam Rifles and Shooting Association (ARSA) has been allotted the prestigious 20th All India GV Mavalankar Shooting Championship by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

The State shooting body is preparing the most vital event of the sports from November 18 to 27. ARSA general secretary Bhaba Kalita while addressing the media said the meet will be held at the Sports Shooting Range at 4th Assam Police Battalion complex, Kahilipara here.

The infrastructure is ready for the championship where about 2,000 shooters from all over the country in different age group will participate. Around 40 officials of NRAI for technical support to the mega event. Kalita, however, mentioned that teams from Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh will not turn up for the meet.

Throwing light on the range, the ARSA secretary said the infrastructure, which was set up during the 33rd National Games in 2007, is well equipped including latest electronic target system. Host Assam will have a 96-member team and Kalita is hopeful that this time the host team will be able to corner good number of medals.

ARSA officials Anil Das and Nimai Das were also present in the press conference.
