All India Poetry Fest at NEHU

TURA, Sept 18 - The North Eastern Hill University on Monday hosted the All India Poetry Festival of the Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with the NEHU, Tura campus.

The event saw the attendance of eminent poets from all over the country who showcased a rich cultural mosaic with a kaleidoscopic view of the North East and India.

In the inaugural session, Prof Fameline Marak of the Department of Garo, spoke on the treasured poetic pieces and verses of the region and stressed the need to preserve these linguistic artifacts for posterity. Prof Sujata Gurudev of the Department of English highlighted the significance of poems as vehicles of human values, and how a poet can change, refashion and remap the world. The four sessions of the festival were chaired by Prof Sujata Gurudev, Karabi Deka Hazarika, Prof Caroline Marak and Anitha Thampi respectively.
