All India NIT sports meet concludes

SILCHAR, Oct 16 - The All India NIT Tournament for Table Tennis and Yoga hosted by National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar concluded recently.

Players from as many as 17 NITs including the hosts took part in the two sports events.

In the men�s doubles TT, paddlers from NIT Warangal defeated the hosts to clinch the title. NIT Surat got the third position. In the women�s doubles category, NIT Silchar faced yet another defeat in the hands of NIT Jaipur. NIT Suratkal secured the third slot.

NIT Allahabad and NIT Suratkal emerged as champions in the respective team events in the men�s and women�s categories.

NIT Raipur occupied the top spot in Yoga competition as the players won champions trophy in both men�s and women�s division.

Prof Sibaji Bandopadhyay, director of the institute, addressing the students said, �Besides coaching and training, sportspersons must strengthen their minds for better performances with clear objectives set before them.�

Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, who attended the ceremony as the chief guest congratulated the winners and participants. Earlier, State Fisheries and Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya inaugurated the championship.
