All for a pet parrot

By CORRESPONDENT

MORIGAON, Nov 5 In a rare case of exemplary love and affection for a pet, Monica Bora, a resident of Rangadariya village in Morigaon district, brought a parrot 12 years ago and kept it in her house.

Monica named her parrot Babu which grew up to learn the language and understand the behaviour of the members in Monicas household.

The villagers of Rangadariya village admired Babus memory as he could sing songs with substantial melody. Babu was blind when Monica took him to her residence.

Every day, Babu prayed for the good of the villagers. Babu died on November 1 after a brief illness, casting a pall of gloom in the entire Rangadariya village. Like a family member of Monicas household, Babu had enjoyed all the good things in life. Monica had even deposited Rs 70,000 in a local bank in the name of Babu.

The villagers bade a tearful adieu to Babu. Monica also arranged an adyashraddha ceremony in memory of Babu on Sunday in which several hundreds of people were present.

The exemplary love for a bird among the villagers of Rangadariya will definitely send a message to the society where men kill birds and other animals without any rhyme or reason.
