All employees of Jorhat SP office sent for home quarantine

JORHAT, July 3 - Jorhat Superintendent of Police Mrinal Talukdar, all officials including the Additional SPs, Deputy SPs and other employees of the SP office here, went for home quarantine today after two policemen posted at the said office tested positive for COVID-19.

The two policemen � Tapan Dutta and Pabitra Madhab Saikia � have been admitted to JMCH. It may be mentioned here that the office chambers of two Additional SPs and two DSPs were inside the Jorhat SP office complex.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati today stated that about a week back, 17 cases having no travel history (including the two cops ) have been reported in the district.

She said swabs of all policemen and other officers posted at the SP office complex were being collected and the compound and the entire office complex were sanitized.

The Deputy Commissioner said out of the seven positive cases found today, two were the policemen and two were pick-up van drivers having no travel history.

Korati said the homes of the people who tested positive were declared containment zones or containment buildings.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that efforts were on to trace the contacts of the positive cases so that the spread could be prevented.

Meanwhile, the lockdown enforced on Saturday and Sunday since last week in the urban areas have now been extended to suburban areas, the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner informed.

Korati further stated that from Monday (July 6) onwards, separate timings have been fixed by the district administration for opening and closing of shops.

She said 50 per cent of the shops will remain open from 8 am to 1 pm while the rest of the shops from 1.30 pm to 6 pm as per the schedule prepared by the administration.

The Deputy Commissioner said the above-mentioned steps were initiated to prevent the spread of coronavirus and asked people to cooperate in this regard by adhering to all norms under COVID-19 rules like social distancing, wearing masks in public places and maintaining hygiene, etc.
