All elected PRI representatives to be given training

GUWAHATI, June 12 - The State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development (SIPRD), Assam has taken up the task of training of the elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutions in Assam.

The total number of elected representatives is 26,810 which includes all the tiers of Panchayati Raj in the State.

The induction training programmes were started in February 2019 in the State level at SIPRD, HQ, Khanapara and at RCITSD, SIPRD, 2nd Campus, Kahikuchi and at all the 12 extension centres throughout the State.

Gaon panchayat presidents, the presidents and vice-presidents of anchalik panchayats and all the members including chairmen of zilla parishads will be given training in the State level.

At the extension centres the members of anchalik panchayats and gaon panchayats are being trained. Till date in the State level about 1,000 of the 2,197 gaon panchayat presidents have already been given training. At the extension centres about 1,000 members of anchalik panchayats and about 10,000 GP members have already undergone training.

Already one round of satellite-based training for all the gaon panchayat presidents throughout the State was conducted during the month of February, Anupam Dutta, senior faculty member and head of training, SIPRD, said.

Topics like Panchayati Raj System, Acts and laws related to Panchayati Raj and PRIs, roles and responsibilities of the PRI representatives, accounts and records-related topics, programme implementation, resource mapping, resource mobilisation and OSR are included in the training programmes.

Art of living sessions are also conducted every morning to enlighten the minds of the participants. This is expected to contribute towards stress management for the PRI members in the future.

�Dr JB Ekka, Principal Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development, Govt of Assam has been monitoring the progress of the training programmes and ensuring that quality is maintained as these training sessions will help in strengthening the Panchayati Raj Institutions system in the State and in implementation of the rural development programmes, Dutta added.

Dr P Ashok Babu, Commissioner, P&RD, Assam has extended help in the designing of the module as per the requirement of the PRI members with more emphasis on MIS and programme implementation.

K Pegu, Director SIPRD has been interacting with the trainees � both at the State and extension centre levels � in person as well as via satellite. He is ensuring that participants learn about the Panchayati Raj system in Assam and the rural development programmes.

Team SIPRD, Assam is likely to complete the induction training for all the 26,810 elected PRI representatives by end of July.
