NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Feb 19 - Ali Aye Lrigang, the agrarian festival of the Mising community, is celebrated on the first Wednesday of the month of Phagun. Accordingly, it was celebrated across Lakhimpur district with traditional pomp and gaiety.
The festival was celebrated centrally in North Lakhimpur at the Kristi Vikash Kendra in Borimuri. The festivities began with the inauguration of the Murung Ghar by Debananda Mili. This was followed by the hoisting of the flag by the president of the organizing committee, Bhumi Ranjan Doley. Padmakanta Pawe, working president of the organizing committee, led the tribute-paying ceremony on the occasion.
An opening session was held in the afternoon, which was inaugurated by Govinda Taid, president of Mising Agom Kebang. Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Debeswar Malakar attended the function as the chief guest.
Ali Aye Lrigang was also celebrated with a three-day programme by Lakhimpur Mising Baptist Fellowship at Lal Pani Church at Boginadi, Lakhimpur. Prominent journalist Purna Kumar Chinte and Arindam Prince Panging attended the festivities at Boginadi. At Dhakuakhana, Ali Aye Lrigang was celebrated at Maatmora and Medakgaon.
