Alert railway employees feted

GUWAHATI, Dec 2 - Mohd Jamshed, General Manager, NF Railway on Monday felicitated two alert railway employees for their exemplary devotion to duty which helped save many lives. Both were awarded with a cash of Rs 5000 each and a citation, a press release stated.

On November 21, Kaushik Brahma, keyman under Alipurduar division while on routine patrolling duty detected one rail fracture in a switch expansion joint at KM 46/4-5 between New Maynaguri and Betgara stations at around 8.12 am. He immediately advised one local villager passing by to inform the matter to the nearby gateman Sanjoy Dutta of Level Crossing gate no. NN-25. Dutta on receiving the information blocked the track by displaying red signal at the gate thereby avoiding any accident.

On the same date at around 8.50 am, Rajib Mudoi, trackman of Rangiya division while performing duty between KM 71/4 �77/8 between stations Rowtabagan and Majbat of Rangiya-Rangapara section detected some suspected material below the concrete sleeper of track with wires protruding out from the ballast. He immediately informed the matter to the railway engineer in-charge of the section at Majbat and ensured protection of the railway track from both sides and thus averted a major accident.
