DIPHU, Feb 2 � The number of HIV-infected people in the hill district is increasing at an alarming rate, creating a panicky situation among the people.
In this regard, HIVPSUNG, an NGO is working for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in different places with the help of Fatasil Manpara Economic Development Society.
As per epidemiological profiling on HIV/AIDS, many persons were found to be HIV-infected in different places in Karbi Anglong district. According to surveys and data collected by HIVPSUNG, between 2008 and 2014, altogether 102 HIV patients were detected in Bokajan subdivision.
On the other hand, between 2007 and March 31, 2010 altogether 50 HIV-infected patients were found in different places under Diphu subdivision. The HIVPSUNG is taking up comprehensive steps on the epidemic continuously. Awareness programmes have been organised in several places in the district among the masses as well as among the HIV positive people�s family by counselling and sending people to ART centres without taking any government funds.
Meanwhile, the NGO has sought support from every organisation and society at large to give care and support to HIV- positive people, and to take steps to abolish stigma and discrimination among the HIV-positive people.
