BONGAIGAON, Jan 31 - Biswajit Ray faction of AKRSU has decided in its executive meeting to field contenders of its choice in 30 Assembly seats with the help of its joint forum Janagosthiya Oikiya Mancha and other like-minded groups. Adviser of the students body Biswajit Ray announced the decision before the media recently.
The seats which have been considered are: Golokganja, Gauripur, Bilasipara East, Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar East, Kokrajhar West, Sidli, Bijni, Bongaigaon, Abhayapuri North, Sarbhog, Bhabanipur, Patsala, Tamulpur, Chapaguri, Barama, Paneri, Sipajhar, Kolaigaon, Majbat, Borsola, Dhekiajuli, Rangapara, Gohpur, Bihpuria, Amguri, Nagaon, Dispur, Jalukbari and Dudhnoi.
In these Assembly seats, the population of Koch-Rajbongshi voters is from 16 to 60 thousand, which might be a deciding factor for any candidate in those seats in the ensuing polls, said Ray.
Lashing out at the BJP, Ray said, Since we cannot take the BJP into confidence because of its treacherous nature, so we cannot back the party to form a Government in the State.
Some Koch-Rajbongshi legislators including Anjan Dutta, who is also a State president of the ruling party, had been elected in the State, but they are silent on issues of the community. So, to give fitting reply to Dutta, the students group would project its candidate this time against him in Amguri seat, said Ray.
