AKRSU reiterates Kamatapur demand

By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, June 4 - The All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) reiterated its demand for a separate Kamatapur State along with grant of ST status and staged a three-hour sit-in demonstration today at the Childrens Park near the Deputy Commissioners office.

A number of supporters of All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) and activists of All Koch Rajbongshi Mahila Samiti joined the demonstration with posters and banners from 11 am today. They also shouted slogans.

Later, the students body submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar.

AKRSU leaders Hitesh Barman, Arun Roy, Parikhit Roy and Raj Kumar Roy, among others, joined the programme.

The students body while slamming the political parties said that neither the Congress nor the BJP cared to resolve the long- standing demands of the community. Talking to mediapersons, AKRSU president Arun Roy alleged that both the State and Central governments have been politicising the issues of the Koch Rajbongshis since long.

We want our demands to be fulfilled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to fulfil our demands during an election rally at Bongaigaon. So, it is very unfortunate that the Centre has conveniently forgotten about us, Roy said.

We will begin an anti-BJP agitation if the Centre does not give due importance to our demands. The Koch Rajbongshi community will give a befitting answer to the political parties during the Lok Sabha election next year for playing with our sentiments, Roy warned.
