AKRSU (H) rally reiterates demand for Kamatapur, ST status

BONGAIGAON, Sept 13 - A faction of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students� Union (AKRSU-H) led by its president Hiteswar Barman organised a huge public rally on Tuesday at Borpara public field here to press for its Kamatapur and Scheduled Tribes demands.

�Koch Rajbongshis are seeking Kamatapur because they are feeling insecure in the State�, Tai Ahom Student�s Union president Litul Buragohain said.

He also alleged that indigenous communities have to suffer problems in the State because of the Education and Family Welfare Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In his address, the former president of Dimasa Sahitya Sabha Dr Motilal Nunisa presented the historical background of Kamatapur and gave justifications for the demand.

Motok Yuba Chatra Sanmilan president Uday Sankar Mohan slammed the legislators for their mute role regarding the rights and interest of the indigenous communities of the State.

General secretary of the student group Troilokya Ray criticised the Assam and Bengal Governments for occupying the lands of Kamatapur illegally violating the merger agreement.

�We will not allow creation of any other separate State in the historic Kamatapur�, Ray said. The president of the student group Hiteswar Barman added that they are ready to take up arms to meet the demands.

Birsa Commando Force chairman Durga Hasda, Kokrajhar Member of Parliament Naba Saraniya, Koch Rajbongshi Yuba Chatra Sanmilani adviser Tridip Pati Singha and adviser to the student group Atul Ray also addressed the rally and supported the issues of the Koch Rajbongshis.

The rally witnessed a mammoth gathering.
