Akhil seriously ill, not getting proper treatment: KMSS

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 2 - The KMSS on Tuesday will file a petition at the NIA special court here seeking proper medical treatment for its leader Akhil Gogoi, who is currently lodged in the Guwahati Central Jail.

The members of the organisation alleged that Gogoi is seriously ill and suffering from stomach and lower back pain along with severe fever. Two days ago, the jail authority brought Gogoi to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after he complained about stomach pain. The GMCH authority discharged him after necessary examinations.

But, today, the KMSS alleged that the jail authority is yet to provide proper medical treatment to Gogoi and his health condition is fast deteriorating. As alleged by a section of his friends, relatives and organisation members who went to meet him in jail, Gogoi could not even meet his visitors due to his health condition.

Today, I went to the Guwahati central jail to meet my elder brother. But, it is very pathetic that due to his ill-health he could even meet me. Other KMSS members, who are in the jail, informed me that Akhil Gogoi is not in a condition to get up and move, said Monoj Gogoi, a relative of Akhil Gogoi. Alleging that the government is conspiring to kill Akhil Gogoi in jail, he demanded proper and immediate medical treatment.

Former KMSS leader Kamal Kumar Medhi today alleged that at the GMCH the doctors did not provide proper treatment to Akhil Gogoi due to which his condition has turned critical today.

I urge every section of public to raise their voice demanding proper medical treatment for Akhil Gogoi. We will not let him die in jail, Medhi said.

KMSS adviser Hussain Mohammad Shahjahan also urged the State government to ensure that Akhil Gogoi gets proper medical treatment. Without timely action Gogois condition will become more critical, he said.
