GUWAHATI, May 22 A citizens meet at the Lakshidhar Bora Khsetra this evening appealed to Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti general secretary Akhil Gogoi to immediately suspend his indefinite fast in view of his deteriorating health.

The meet, presided over by journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, condemned the statement by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in connection with Akhils fast and police atrocities on anti-mega dam activists. It also decided to send a delegation to apprise the Governor of the anti-people stand of the government in respect of the mega dam issue. The delegation will pray for immediate intervention of the Governor in the matter.

But KMSS has ruled out any possibility of Akhil Gogoi suspending his fast until and unless the Government invites the Samiti for a discussion on the issue. Akhil Gogoi will rather embrace death than compromise the cause of the people, said KMSS publicity secretary Kamal Kumar Medhi.

Meanwhile, AIUDF today urged the government to resolve the mega dam issue through talks.
