Akalbodhan Durga puja begins at Rakhalpat

GAURIPUR, Oct 4 - Commemorating the legendary Akalbodhan Durga puja celebrated by Shri Rama to seek the blessings of Ma Durga to kill Ravana in the Treta era, Late Amiya Kumar Pradhani, the son of zaminder Kailash Chandra Pradhani started Akalbodhan Durga puja in 1971 in a temple situated in front of his house at Rakhalpat. For this purpose, he made an exceptional idol of clay of Ma Durga with the lion as Her conveyance with Rama, Lakshmana and Hunumana and performed puja by offering 108 lotus flowers on Her feet.

This year, the devotees of the village formed a strong committee with Dulal Roy and Manik Roy as president and secretary respectively and are celebrating the 48th year of the Akalbodhan Durga puja with pomp and gaiety as before.

The puja rituals began today and hundreds of devotees are expected to take part in the celebration. The immersion of the idol of Ma Durga will take place on October 9 on the auspicious Ekadashi Tithi in the river Gangadhar as before.
