AK-56 rifle recovered from near Orang park

MANGALDAI, June 28 - Darrang police in the wee hours today recovered an AK-56 rifle along with 47 rounds of ammunition from a village near the Orang National Park. A .303 rifle, ammunition and some incriminating documents were also recovered during the operation.

The recovery was made on the basis of confession of two poachers � Mazibur Rahman and Jakir Hussain, both residents of Nalbari village adjacent to the national park, who were apprehended on Tuesday.

Darrang SP Sreejith Thiraviam said the arrested poachers disclosed that they have concealed the firearms in the backyard of one Tota Miya of Naorasicha village under Silbori police outpost.

Accordingly, a police team conducted the operation, he said, adding, Tota Miya has been absconding. The police is also examining whether there is any nexus between poachers and fundamental elements.
