AJYCPs statewide demonstrations on ILP demand

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 20 - Reiterating its demand for introduction of inner line permit (ILP) for entry into Assam to protect the interest and identity of the indigenous people, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) today staged sit-in demonstrations across the State.

To make its movement more effective in the days to come, the Parishad has sought the support of intellectuals and socially conscious citizens of the State, who can help in building public opinion for the cause.

The sit-in demonstration staged today was supported by the people all over the State. Now, to continue with the stir further, we are going to hold public conventions over the issue throughout Assam, where the intellectuals and socially conscious citizens will be invited to discuss the necessity and relevance of the inner line permit and raise a strong demand to implement it along with completing the NRC process, AJYCP president Putul Dutta said.

The organisation also sought the support of all the local organisations and people of Assam in its efforts to protect the rights of the indigenous population.

Along with many other parts of the State, the Parishad held todays protest activities near the Dighalipukhuri here and also at Amingaon.

Assam still remains vulnerable to large-scale illegal influx and migration and the problem cannot be addressed by the NRC alone. It is in the best interest of the indigenous people to have a provision of inner line permit for the State, as has been done by many other states of the north-eastern region including Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland, Palash Changmai, general secretary of AJYCP said.
