AJYCP torchlight rally seeking ILP in State

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - Reiterating their demand for introduction of inner line permit (ILP) in Assam, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) today took out a torchlight procession in the district headquarters throughout the State.

The youth body said that the threats from external influx and internal migration cannot be avoided unless the State has a provision of the ILP system like many other NE states.

AJYCP central committee president Rana Pratap Barua and general secretary Palash Changmai said the threat to the identity and existence of the indigenous population of Assam is genuine and thus, immediate measures are required to address this problem.

Though the NRC exercise was taken up over the issue of illegal foreigners residing in Assam, only NRC is not adequate to provide a foolproof security cover to the Assamese people. Since its inception, the AJYCP has been demanding Constitutional safeguards like inner line permit to secure the future of the locals. The movement in favour of this demand will grow stronger in future, the AJYCP leaders added.
