AJYCP to prevent foreign cos from taking over oilfields

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 3 - Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today said that it is going all out to prevent companies based outside the State from taking over oilfields in Assam.

Workers and activists are on alert to keep such companies at bay, said a press statement issued by AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar.

Surrendering the oilfields to the foreign companies without any consultation with the people is the breach of trust the people reposed on Sarbananda Sonowal and his party. We are firm on our stand against it and we have been opposing the deal since it was worked out in Delhi after BJP formed the government in Dispur. We are fully prepared to go to any extent to prevent the foreign companies from taking over these oilfields, Talukdar said.

He added, We have already kept our activists on alert on the oilfields in question. They are keeping a close watch on these oilfields to ensure that the foreign companies are not allowed to land in .

The AJYCP president said that the government has already struck the deal last year with a few companies to take over some oilfields and in the first phase eight oilfields have formally been handed over to the outside firms triggering a Statewide agitation.
