DIBRUGARH, Jan 29 - The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has threatened to obstruct oil exploration activities of Oil India Limited (OIL), Duliajan from February 1 next in protest against the failure of the OIL authorities in carrying out adequate developmental works in the oilfield areas.

In a statement, the organization has said that OIL is exploiting the people by on the one hand extracting oil and on the other, not taking up socio-economic programmes in the oilfield areas. Despite repeated dharnas and submission of memorandums to the OIL authorities, the oil industry was not carrying out social responsibilities proportionately, the AJYCPs district unit said. The organization in a statement said that the oilfield areas have remained under-developed in spite of the fact that oil exploration is going on in those areas for the past several years.

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad has also demanded that the Man Management Contract (MMC) adopted by Oil India Limited be cancelled once and for all.

The organization has also vehemently condemned the OIL authorities and the Union Government for denying the post of CMD to a deserving candidate from Assam.

The organization has demanded early fulfillment of their demands, failing which they have threatened to go ahead with the proposed stir from February 1 next.
