AJYCP protests dam in Arunachal Pradesh

DOOMDOOMA, Dec 10 - The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Tinsukia district unit took out a huge rally at Talap near here on Monday to raise their protest against the proposed 2880 MW Dibang Dam in Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the agitators, the height of the proposed dam is 288 metres, making it one of the biggest dams in the world, which may bring devastation, in case of any accident, to the people of Assam, especially for Tinsukia district. The agitators also demanded permanent solutions to the flood and erosion problems of Tinsukia district.

The rally was led by Tinsukia district unit AJYCP president Surajit Moran and general secretary Shimanta Das. They said that they would start a mass movement soon if their demands are not fulfilled immediately.

It may be mentioned here that the AJYCP Tinsukia district unit took out a rally at Digboi on December 3 on the same demands.
