AJYCP leader arrested for intimidating scribe

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Sept 4 - The secretary of North Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Niran Baruah has been arrested by North Lakhimpur police under Section 294/506 of CrPC and a case registered against him vide Case No.986/18.

Earlier, Niran Baruah had threatened to kill Kumud Baruah, senior journalist and secretary of North Lakhimpur Press Club.

The student leader under reference made intimidating calls to the senior scribe on Monday morning and threatened to take his life. In the wake of the incident, an emergent meeting was held at the North Lakhimpur Press Club under the chairmanship of its president Sailen Baruah, where every member denounced the condemned the student leader for his abominable act.

The meeting resolved to file a case against Niran Baruah and asked the concerned authorities to take stern action against him. The meeting also urged the central committee of AJYCP to take action against the leader for his reprehensible act.

After the meeting, the members of NL Press Club went to the North Lakhimpur Sadar Police Station and filed a case against Niran Baruah. At the individual level, Kumud Baruah too filed another case against the student leader at the same police station.
