AJYCP flays Gogoi over Central funds

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 25 Criticising the Tarun Gogoi-led State government for not being able to utilise the Central funds for development of the State, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad today said Gogoi must realise that he is not a Congress Chief Minister but the Chief Minister of Assam.

Addressing the media here, AJYCP leader Manoj Baruah said that through the ministry reshuffle, though Gogoi has succeeded in keeping his post and position intact, it, by no means would help the State in any way.

Reshuffle is an internal matter of the government, but the way it was done in Assam, compels public organisations to comment. With no specific criteria to select new ministers or to retain some of the ministers from the last cabinet, the reshuffle creates a lot of suspicion, said Baruah.

The Parishad also alleged that a good number of ministers in the new cabinet have earned a bad name due to corruption.

The Gogoi government got the full benefit of the grant-loan ratio, which is 90 per cent grant and 10 loan in the Centrally sponsored schemes. The government got nearly Rs 2 lakh crore for the major schemes like PMGSY, MGNREGA, NHM, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification scheme, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Mission, bridges over the Brahmaputra at Bogibeel and Dhola Saikhowa and the second bridge over the Brahmaputra at Saraighat. With this much money and huge public support, he could have changed the face of Assam, but the result is just the opposite, said Baruah.

The AJYCP will hold its 17th biennial central conference at Rang Sotiuwa Pathar, Dhemaji on January 28, 29 and 30. Leaders of different student, youth and ethnic bodies will take part in the conference to discuss the burning issues of the State.
