GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has asked the State government to come clear on the status of the four water supply projects for Guwahati city which were started way back in 2008 but are yet to become operational. The AJP made the demand while constituting a convenors� body to form the party�s Guwahati district committee today.
Amid various proposals taken at the convenors� committee meeting today, the AJP also rapped the government for its failure to solve the flash flood problem of Guwahati despite declaring it a �Smart City�.
�It is not just that the city�s law and order is in a shambles, even the civic issues like municipal solid waste (MWS) management are yet to be sorted out. The government should stop using the Deepor Beel should as a dustbin. Instead, it should take steps to make it pollution-free,� the regional party stated.
A 79-member convenors� committee was formed to initiate the process of forming AJP�s Guwahati committee. At today�s meeting more than 1,500 people from different parts of Guwahati city joined the party.
The district convenors� committee of AJP includes former AGSU presidents Dr Mahendra Gogoi, Kanak Talukdar and Bikash Narayan Sarma, and former vice president of All Kamrup District Students� Union Partha Pratim Bharali among others.
The AJP stated that more than 200 members of the Asom Gana Parishad led by Arun Pathak and 150 members of the AJYCP joined the party today.
