Jorhat, March 10: The Returning Officer of Mariani Assembly constituency on Wednesday rejected the nomination papers of AJP candidate Alok Kumar Ghosh, a former MLA of Mariani, following certain technical issues like failing to fill up few columns in the affidavit submitted with nomination papers of the candidate on Tuesday.

The order, by Returning Officer mentioned that Ghosh, despite directed to submit a fresh affidavit filling all necessary columns on Wednesday - the day of scrutiny- the new affidavit was found to be not having filled up two columns following which his (Ghosh) candidature was rejected as per Election Commission of India rules.

It may be mentioned here that Ghosh was a BJP member who did not get ticket this time. He had earlier contested polls from Mariani under NCP and TMC banners.
