Ajmal seeks PM intervention for paper mills revival

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 12 - All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make personal intervention for revival of the Nagaon and Cachar Paper Mills.

I understand that as a last resort a consortium of operational creditors and investors represented by Mahalaxmi Continental Ltd (MCL Consortium) has submitted a scheme to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for reviving the Cachar Paper Mill and Nagaon Paper Mill of Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd (in liquidation) under relevant sections of the Companies Act, 2013. Consortium members are from Assam having high reputation, credibility and prior experience of reviving sick industries and green field projects, Ajmal stated in a letter to the Prime Minister.

He added, It is further reported that on September 14 the NCLT will take a decision in favour of revival or auction of the mills. I wish to emphasize that the revival is in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat Policy... It will create direct and indirect employment to four lakh people and save the families of 1,200 (mill) employees.

Ajmal urged the Prime Minister to facilitate the revival by committing cooperation of the government and paying the dues of the employees amounting to Rs 535 crore. I request your personal intervention so that the representation of the Government of India in NCLT hearing on September 14 is in favour of revival as per the scheme submitted, Ajmal stated.
