Ajan Pir Award conferred on Arun Sharma

SIVASAGAR, Dec 19 - The Ajan Pir Award distribution ceremony was organized on Friday evening by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, in association with the Sivasagar district administration here at the Sivasagar Natya Mandir.

The award was presented to noted dramatist Arun Sharma. State Agriculture Minister, Rakibul Hussain gave away the award which includes a japi, a sador, a sarai, a certificate and a cheque of two lakh rupees.

Speaking on the occasion, Hussain said that Arun Sharma was a bright star in the galaxy of Assamese literature and culture. The Government has conferred the award to him for his immense contributions in the above-mentioned fields.

�Sankardev eliminated evils through his Chinhayatra, while Ajan Fakir united people with his zikirs. There is no place for intolerance in this country,� Hussain said.

Receiving the award, Sharma said, �Communal harmony is still in existence due to Ajan Fakir. Sankardev�s literature and the satra culture attracted Ajan Fakir immensely.

The prize distribution ceremony was also attended by Amguri MLA Anjan Dutta, Sonari MLA Sarat Borkotoky, Minister Bismita Gogoi, Sarat Saikia, Sushanta Buragohain, DC Virendra Mittal, SP AP Tiwari, and the Commissioner and Secretary of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Pritam Saikia.
