Aizawl residents voluntarily adhere to lockdown curfew

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, March 28 - Not a single person was arrested for venturing out of home as people here voluntarily adhered to the 21-day nationwide lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Barring a few policemen patrolling at some locations, streets were completely deserted with the residents staying indoors as the lockdown entered its fourth day today.

To strictly enforce the lockdown, the Aizawl District Magistrate had imposed a curfew from 9 pm on Wednesday.

The local-level task force on COVID-19 has been enforcing the lockdown in every locality. The task force has been making announcements, reminding the citizens to stay indoors.

The Aizawl District Magistrate had earlier issued an order that the residents would be allowed to buy essential items on Saturday, but revoked it on Friday night at the request of the All Mizoram Doctors Association and the general public.

In most localities, the local task force delivered food items to the families on the basis of the orders placed by them on specified phone numbers.

Mizoram DGP SBK Singh said that among all States, Mizoram is at the top when it comes to abiding the law and self-discipline. Mizoram truly sets a shining example for the rest of the country, he said.
