AIUDF writes to NRC authorities on harassment

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 11 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today said people across the State are facing problems resulting out of the NRC verification process and called upon the NRC authorities to take steps to deal with the issues being faced by citizens.

AIUDF president and Lok Sabha MP Badaruddin Ajmal today sent a letter to NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela in this regard.

We have observed that some people are not getting their notices on time, mentioning verification date and place, and facing problems. As the verification centre may be located at any place and distance, people should get the information well in advance to attend the verification centre as specified in the notice. People, particularly in lower Assam districts like Dhubri and Goalpara, are receiving notices even after the fixed dates are over, Ajmal stated.

He said, Secondly, it is a matter of regret that the verification centres are not equipped with sanitary facilities and people coming from distant places are facing problems. He also urged the authorities concerned to construct temporary sanitary facilities at the verification centres for the convenience of people.

Praising Hajela for his effort to bring out the second draft of the NRC within the stipulated time, the AIUDF chief said names of no genuine Indian citizen should be left out in the final draft.
