GAURIPUR, May 20 - Nijanur Rahman, AIUDF candidate, won the prestigious Gauripur LAC seat by a margin of 19,911 votes, defeating Banendra Kumar Mushahary, the BPF candidate and three-time MLA of Gauripur LAC.
Nijanur Rahman secured 73,423 votes, while Banendra Kumar Mushahary got only 53,512 votes.
Out of a total of 1,79,042 voters, 1,60,663 exercised their franchise. There were a total of 11 candidates in the fray. All the rest of the contesting candidates lost their security deposits.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, Nijanur Rahman was in the second position and he secured 35,479 votes, while Banendra Kumar Mushahary got 53,619 votes.
In Dhubri LAC, Nazrul Haque, the AIUDF candidate, won the seat by a margin of 24,086 votes. He secured 60,933 votes, while Nazibul Umar, Independent candidate, secured 36,847 votes.
In the Golakganj LAC, Aswini Ray Sarkar of the BJP won the seat by obtaining 74,644 votes, while his rival Congress candidate, Abdus Sobhan Ali, secured 68,253 votes.
