GUWAHATI, May 18 � A two-member delegation of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) comprising its president and Dhubri Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal and MP from Karimganj Radheshyam Biswas met Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu at New Delhi last week and handed over a memorandum to him, said a statement released by the party.
In the memorandum, the AIUDF has called upon the Central government to start an Express train service in the Silchar-Lumding section of the recently-converted broad-gauge line.
The party also called upon the Railways to undertake steps for modernisation of the Hojai railway station to facilitate its emergence as a commercial hub and for stoppages of major long-distance trains there.
