AIUDF hopes to win five seats in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 15 Categorically denying any backhand deals with the ruling Congress party, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today exuded confidence of winning from at least five seats in Assam during the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing media-persons here, AIUDF working president Dr Aditya Langthasa said both Congress and BJP have made allegations against his party accusing it of helping the other.

Such allegations are totally baseless. In all the 10 constituencies we plan to contest from Assam we will put up our strongest candidates We are optimistic of winning from at least five seats, he said.

AIUDF has already announced names of its candidates from six constituencies and is expected to announce candidates for Koliabor, Mangaldai, Silchar and Tezpur early next week.

The party also criticised recent opinion polls by some groups showing a huge advantage for the Congress in Assam and termed such surveys as politically motivated.

The kind of corruption and mismanagement witnessed during the past 10 years of Congress regime in Centre is unprecedented. In none of the States will the Congress be able to secure seats in double-digit, Langthasa said, adding his partys participation in UPA was only issue-based and with the intent to fight communalism.

Meanwhile, for the Koliabor constituency, the AIUDF has shortlisted a panel of five names for candidacy Champak Kalita, Nurul Amin Choudhury, Mulan Chandra Nath, Rupam Gogoi and Bijoy Kumar Tiru.

Langthasa said the party will give a tough contest to Gaurav Gogoi in the constituency.
