AIUDF draws Gadkaris attention to incomplete works

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 5 - Expressing concern over the progress of work on the 31-km stretch extending from Balacherra to Harengajao under the Silchar-Saurashtra East West corridor via Dima Hasao and also demanding immediate attention on the construction of Dhubri-Phulbari four-lane bridge over river Brahmaputra, AIUDF supremo and MP Badaruddin Ajmal has written to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

In the memorandum, which was submitted to the minister at his office chamber in the premises of Parliament on Thursday, Ajmal along with party general secretary Karim Uddin Barbhuiya underlined the need for expediting the Silchar-Saurashtra road project, stating that despite obtaining clearance from the Forest Department, the completion of the major project much needed in the interest of the people of Barak Valley is stalled for years since 2004.

Moreover, drawing attention of the Union Minister on the Dhubri-Phulbari four-lane bridge over river Brahmaputra, Ajmal said the DPR for the construction of the bridge was prepared and duly submitted to the concerned department. Once the bridge is ready, it would connect Assam and Meghalaya with the rest of the country thereby ushering in development of the region.

Further, the AIUDF leadership also demanded the completion of the abandoned two-lane Silchar bypass for which Rs 103.89 crore has been sanctioned under SARDP Assam and also for construction of a bridge over river Barak at Sonabarighat which is lying incomplete only with some concrete pillars. The delegation urged the Union Minister to look into the demands which would help people of the State get a sigh of relief from unabated soil erosion.
