BARPETA, Oct 24 - The AIUDF candidate Rafiqul Islam was declared elected in the 44 Jania constituency bye-election.
He defeated Congress candidate Samsul Hoque by a comfortable margin of over 35,000 votes.
Rafiqul Islam polled 81,764 votes while the Congress candidate bagged 46634 votes.
But the BJP nominee Towfiqur Rahman got only 15,348 votes.
