GUWAHATI, Nov 7 � South Zone won both the volleyball and throwball titles in the All India Airport Authority of India (AAI) Volleyball (men) and Throwball (women) Tournament.

The championship was organised by the AAI Regional Sports Control Board, North East Region at the NF Railway Stadium, Maligaon from November 3 to 6.

Teams consisting of employees from East Zone, West Zone, North Zone, South Zone, Central Zone and North East Zone took part in the meet.

In the volleyball final, South Zone men defeated North Zone 3-0 in straight sets while the South Zone women beat North East Zone 3-2 in the throwball summit clash. The North East Zone and East Zone bagged the fairplay trophy in volleyball and throwball events respectively. Anit Das of the North East Zone team was adjudged best player in throwball.

RN Srivastava, Inspector General of BSF, Guwahati was present as the chief guest in the closing function held at the AAI Colony, LBBI Airport last evening. BS Ahlawat, general secretary of the AAI Employees Union was the guest of honour in the closing function.
