By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - The LGBI Airport is adding mechanised as well as automated instruments in its operations to enhance the existing capacity and improve the aerodrome facilities.

On Tuesday the airport added a high-powered grass cutting machine in its operational area to check and reduce the growth of tall grasses. This mechanised grass cutting cum collection machine has been procured by Central Headquarters, AAI New Delhi at a cost of Rs 67 lakh each and was imported from Netherlands (Holland).

This is first of its kind grass cutting machine deployed at any north-eastern airport. The machine will not only cut-collect and dump grasses in bulk, but it will collect and remove insects also, which ultimately will check bird-hit menace in glide and approach path of aircraft.

These machines are fast, safe and efficient than earlier versions. Before commissioning, the grass cutting machine was unveiled by Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director at a function inside the central workshop of the airport in the presence of AAI officials.
