Air Warrior Drill Team, Air Force Band perform at Tezpur

TEZPUR, Sept 22 - As part of the diamond jubilee celebration of Indian Air Force Station, Tezpur, a special performance of the Air Warrior Drill Team (AWDT) and the Air Force Band was held today for the general public at Church Field here today. Besides other dignitaries, the event was graced by DC, Sonitpur, Narsing Pawar and Air Commodore, Tezpur Air Force station, Tezpal Singh.

Briefing the media, Air Commodore, Tezpur Air Force Station, Tezpal Singh mentioned that the Air Warrior Drill Team was formed in 2004 to project a dynamic and vibrant image of the Indian Air Force, and it is the first-of-its-kind among all military and paramilitary forces in India as it performs unique advanced drill movements with rifles fixed with live bayonets.

�Connecting with the civilians, the programme is being held. AWDT has come a long way since its first demonstration to the Chief of the Air Staff at commander�s conference at Head Quarter training Command on November 27, 2004. Till date, AWDT has given more than 250 performances across the span of the country from Awantipur in the north to Port Blair in the south and from Chabua in the east to Jaisalmer in the west. In 2009, AWDT performed in Sri Lanka with the Sri Lankan Air force drill team. The team was also in the Independence Day celebrations of Mauritius. In a short span of time, AWDT has emerged as the pride of the Indian Air Force and has been complimented as the �Ground ambassador of IAF.�

The Air Commodore added that the Indian Air Force station, Tezpur was established on September 29, 1959 and the diamond jubilee event is being celebrated with a month-long event. The special performance of the Air Warrior Drill Team (AWDT) and the Air Force Band mesmerised one and all.
