AIR preserving recordings of Dr Hazarika

NEW DELHI, March 10 � Allaying apprehension over loss of original recordings of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has claimed that 237 songs and 10 interviews of the legendary composer and singer have been preserved by the All India Radio (AIR).

In a Lok Sabha reply to a question by Paban Singh Ghatowar, it was stated that Prasar Bharati has intimated that Doordarshan (DD) has also preserved his songs and light music programme, discussions and documentary and interviews.

It has been informed that the process of restoration and digitalisation of programmes is being carried out by AIR and DD. Once digitalisation is complete, the production of CDs and DVDs can start, Ghatowar was told.

The Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee had drawn the attention of the I&B Ministry over reports that his original songs and recordings have been lost by AIR Guwahati.
