GUWAHATI, Aug 20 It will be a good news for the soccer buffs of the entire North-eastern region if the city is allotted an international match. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) in a letter to the Assam Football Association (AFA) intimated that they are proposing to stage an international match in the city between India, which is preparing for next years Asian Cup, and a national team of an Asian country.

The match is likely to be held in October or November. Disclosing this in a press conference, AFA secretary Ankur Dutta revealed that a team of the AIFF will visit the city soon to take stock of the facilities available here for an international football match.

Dutta, further intimated that the State football body will prefer the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai as it can accommodate a larger number of spectators than the Nehru Stadium. He also said if the match is played here, they will try to draw fans from the entire region as it will be the first international soccer match in the region. The AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco in his letter asked AFA to intimate if they can host the match in Guwahati.
