Aideu Handique Award presented to Erika Nandi

GAURIPUR, Dec 26 � The prestigious Aideu Handique Award initiated by the Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti was presented to Erika Nandi, an exponent of Sattriya dance on December 17 last in a solemn function held in the auditorium of the District Library, Dhubri.

The award-giving ceremony held under the auspices of Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti in collaboration with the Dhubri branch Lekhika Samaroh Samiti was attended by a host of dignitaries from across the State. Nirupama Misra, president of the samiti hoisted the flag of the samiti in the morning which was followed by garlanding on the portrait of the legendary heroine Aideu Handique.

The open meeting held in the afternoon was presided over by Nirupama Misra, president of the State committee of the Samiti. Panchu Gopal Chakrabarty, ex-vice president of Asam Sahitya Sabha released the souvenir published to mark the auspicious occasion. A large number of members of the branches from Gauripur and Golakganj attended the award-giving ceremony.

Golden jubilee: The three-day programme of the golden jubilee celebration of Shyamcharanerkuti MV School near here concluded on December 22 last.

The programme began on December 20 last after hoisting the flag of the school which was followed by opening of the school gate. An attractive cultural procession was brought out on the occasion and a cordial meet among the teachers and the students was also held.

On the second day, various attractive programmes were also organised including tree plantation, games and sports, symposium and cultural evening on the concluding day besides extempore speeches, go-as-you-like, release of souvenir and prize distribution. The secretary of the celebration committee offered the vote of thanks.

AKRSU delegates� meet: A delegates meet of the All Assam Koch-Rajbongshi Students� Union (AKRSU, Biswajit faction) was held at the auditorium of Silpi Samaj, Golakganj on December 22 last.

The meet was presided over by Kartik Ray, president of the district body. The meet was attended by more than five hundred delegates coming from different areas of the State. In the meet, Biswajit Ray and Pradip Ray were elected as president and secretary for another term. The meet also formed a female wing of the organisation with Purabi Sarkar and Binita Ray as president and secretary respectively. Biswajit Ray, president while delivering his speech called upon the community to be united for achievement of their aims and demanded a separate Kamata State and ST status for the community.
